2020-2022 | Naturhistorisches Museum Freiburg (NHMF)
The Natural History Museum Freiburg's (NHMF) exhibition, 'Tick Tack – The Countdown of Life', takes you on a fascinating journey through the life phases of various species, including humans.
Since the beginning of time, humans have been preoccupied with the desire for a long life, or even immortality. But what do we really know about ageing? Why do some living beings live longer than others?
This itinerant exhibition explores the diversity of ageing in plants, animals and fungi, and asks whether there are organisms that do not age at all.
'Tick tack – the countdown of life' is a prime example of transdisciplinary science communication, intertwining aspects of biology, philosophy, literature, and medicine.
By transforming complex biological concepts into an interactive board game, we provide visitors of all ages with a unique opportunity to gain insight into scientific research.
The exhibition uses stories, games and direct interaction to deepen understanding of the natural cycle of life and spark curiosity about the mysteries of ageing. We explore the diversity of lifespans, from the longevity of trees and the puberty of the 150-year-old Greenland shark to the short existence of the mayfly.of the 150-year-old Greenland shark to the short existence of the mayfly – we illuminate the invisible diversity of lifespans.
The exhibition aims to raise awareness among a wide audience of the topics of life expectancy, ageing and biological diversity.
Visitors not only gain new insights into the science of ageing, but are also encouraged to reflect on their lifestyle and their appreciation of life.
Interactive elements and fictional stories enable visitors to learn in a playful way while exploring life's complexities.
With this exhibition, the Natural History Museum Freiburg and future host museums are creating a platform for dialogue and education that reaches far beyond the museum walls and encourages sustainable reflection.
